Mechatronic Repairs
A mechatronic fault often shows up as harsh, delayed, or jerky gear changes, and it usually points to an issue within the automatic gearbox’s control unit.
At Audi VW Centre, we diagnose and repair mechatronic units on a wide range of vehicles, helping to restore smooth, reliable gear changes without the cost of a full gearbox replacement.
A mechatronic unit is the computerised and hydraulic brain inside modern automatic and dual-clutch gearboxes, such as a DSG. It combines microchips, electronic sensors, and hydraulic valves into one single system to control gear changes and clutch movements automatically. When it develops a fault, it can affect how the car shifts gears, sometimes quite noticeably.
You might notice one or more of the following:
In many cases, we can repair or recondition the mechatronic unit rather than replace the entire gearbox, which can make a significant difference to the overall cost.
We start with a full diagnostic check to confirm whether the issue lies with the mechatronic unit itself or elsewhere in the gearbox. From there, we’ll talk you through the options available for your specific vehicle and provide a clear quote before proceeding.
Our technicians have the equipment and technical knowledge needed to work on mechatronic units accurately, including the software required to carry out any necessary adaptations once the repair is complete.
Gearbox issues can be daunting, particularly given how costly a full replacement can be. We aim to give you an honest assessment from the outset, so you understand what’s actually wrong and what your options are, rather than being pushed towards the most expensive fix by default.
Audi VW Centre is a member of the IMI and the 1Tec Auto Hub network, giving you the reassurance of working with a garage that meets recognised industry standards and has access to the latest diagnostic technology and technical training.
